Wideband Global SATCOM 6 (WGS-6), or USA-244, is a high-capacity US military communications satellite launched on 7 August 2013, to provide enhanced, secure, and rapid data transmission for the Department of Defense (DoD) and international allies. Part of the Block II constellation, it supports voice, data, and video for deployed forces using X and Ka-band frequencies. Australia contributed a significant amount of funding to the WGS program in exchange for access to the system’s capabilities.
