19th Chief Engineer Works (19 CE Wks) is an integrated Australian Army unit consisting of specialist officers and soldiers.
The unit provides the Australian Defence Force (ADF) with its only deployable design and project management capability.
The unit has expertise in the following:The conduct of technical feasibility studies;The preparation of standard and specialist engineering designs, working drawings, detailed specifications and contractual documentation; Project and design management; Works programming and financial management; and on site supervision of Army construction elements and civilian contractors.
19 CE Wks comprises professional civil engineers, project managers, works managers, construction supervisors, surveyors and architectural draftsman.
The unit undertakes varied construction projects, which are constructed in partnership with Army construction units or contracted to industry under the management of 19 CE Wks.
The unit develops and maintains the skills required for such projects through the full involvement of unit personnel in the conduct of various Capital works projects within Australia and overseas (South Pacific and Middle East Area of Operations).
19 CE Works is also involved with the Army Aboriginal Community Assistance Program (AACAP). 19 CE Wks involvement includes the design, planning, coordination and control of engineering works in selected communities. In the last decade, this involvement has extended to coordinating the health and veterinary training and support as well as the delivery of certified and non-certified employability skills programs.
In terms of infrastructure delivery, AACAP projects have delivered a mix of housing, road construction/upgrades, sewerage treatment plants, airfield construction or upgrades, health clinics, telecommunications infrastructure, school upgrades, potable water supply infrastructure, and housing sub divisions.
