1st Armoured Regiment (1 Armd Regt) is part of 1st Brigage and based at Robertson Barracks, Darwin.
1 Armd Regt is the only armoured unit in the Australian Army to be equipped with the M1A1 Abrams main battle tank.
Formed as a tank unit in the newly created Australian Regular Army on 7 July 1949, 1 Armd Regt subsequently saw service during the Vietnam War.
