The 39th Operational Support Battalion (39 OSB) provides force preparation training and mounting support to individuals and specialist teams for Australian Defence Force operations. 39 OSB also sustains specified operations by providing first line administrative and logistic support to these deployed forces. 39 OSB is a Direct Command Unit of the 1st Division.
39 OSB prides itself as being a flexible and agile unit made up of members of the Navy, Army and Air Force as well as civilian public service employees. The Battalion is based in Randwick, Sydney, and has a deployed presence at Camp Baird in the Middle East Area of Operations to oversee Reception, Staging, On-forwarding for all Australian Defence Force personnel as part of Joint Task Force 633. As of January 2014, 39 OSB assumed the responsibility of force preparation for all RAAF formed bodies.
39 OSB has a proud history of service in both World War I, as part of the First Australian Imperial Force and in World War II as a Militia Battalion who first fought and halted the Japanese Forces on the Kokoda track in 1942. The Battalion was taken off the Army’s order of battle in 1943 until it was re-raised on 8 August 2006 as a tribute to the crucial part the 39th Battalion in the defence of Australia in 1942. Today, 39 OSB continues its service to the nation and lives up to its motto: Factis Non Verbus, Deeds Not Words.
