The Security Detachment Iraq (SECDET Iraq) is the final component of Australia’s contribution to coalition operations in Iraq. SECDET is based on an Australian Army combined arms combat team consisting of an infantry company group and a troop of cavalry which operates the Australian Light Armoured (ASLAV) vehicles. Duties include static security guarding at the Australian Embassy, Baghdad and the protection of Australian diplomats and vehicle convoys. Despite the drawdown in Australian forces, SECDET remains in Iraq under Operation Kruger with a strength of approximately 80 personnel.

This patch was worn during the SECDET 10 rotation – September 2006 – March, 2007.

SECTDET 10 was comprised:

A Company, 3 RAR
Elements, 2 Cavalry Regiment and 2/14 Light Horse Regiment (QMI)
Elements, 1st MP Battalion
