The 10th/27th Battalion, Royal South Australia Regiment, is an Army Reserve Infantry Battalion.
10th/27th Battalion, Royal South Australia Regiment (10/27 RSAR), is part of the 9th Brigade, 2nd Division.
10/27 RSAR is a dynamic infantry unit with a proud history dating back to the 10th, 27th and 43rd Battalions raised for World War I. In 1987, the 10th and 27th Battalions were combined to form the modern 10/27 RSAR.
10/27 RSAR has infantry depots in Broken Hill, NSW and regional South Australia, including Port Pirie, Berri and Mount Gambier. In Adelaide, 10/27 RSAR maintains depots at Noarlunga and Keswick Barracks – the Battalion Headquarters.
The role of the infantry is “to seek out and close with the enemy, to kill or capture him, to seize and hold ground and to repel attack, by day or night, regardless of season, weather or terrain.”
10/27 RSAR members pursue their role through dedicated training and integration with both Regular Army and Reserve units.
Under Plan Beersheba the following units are also under 10/27 RSAR command:
• 3rd Field Squadron, Royal Australian Engineers
• 6th/13th Light Battery, Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery
o 16th Light Troop (Tasmania)
o 48th Light Troop (South Australia)
Recently, 10/27 RSAR members have deployed to Timor-Leste, the Solomon Islands, Malaysia (as part of Rifle Company Butterworth, a combined training activity) and as part of border control operations.
The motto of 10th/27th Battalion, Royal South Australia Regiment, is ‘Pro patria’, which is Latin for ‘For country’.
