Comments: DFM GVI/1939 – 45 Star/ACE Star/Africa Star + North Africa 1942 – 43 Bar/Pacific Star/Defence Medal/War Medal 1939 – 45 & ASM 39 – 45. All medals named 403958 E W Salmon. Flt Sgt on the DFM.

Enlisted 31st Mar 1941. Discharged 17th Jan 1946. Embarked from Sydney for training in Canada, embarked from Canada Dec 1941 for service in the UK, where he served the entire in Europe, Africa and the Pacific. Served with 142 & 13 Squadrons.

DFM London Gazette 25th May 1943.Citation reads: ‘A skilful wireless operator Flight Sergeant Salmon has taken part in a large number of operational sorties. One night in January 1943, whilst over Bizerta his aircraft was attacked by enemy night fighter and badly damaged. This airman technical skill was of great assistance to his Captain thus enabling him to return safely to base.’

18/01/43 attacked by JU88 on operations over Bizerta – this action noted in both ‘Fighters Over Tunisia’ and ‘Missing With No Known Grave’.  Photo copies from the book included with research folder.

Log Book shows 32 Ops with 30 completed. In one instance their plane crashed on takeoff and a second they had to turn back due to engine trouble.
